Walking the Talk

In recent issues of Plymouth Magazine, we have shared stories and news on PSU’s numerous “green” initiatives, from campus-wide recycling and environmentally conscious building construction to new courses and majors aimed at preparing our graduates for careers in environmental science, stewardship, policy, and more.

Now the magazine itself has joined the ranks of environmentally conscious PSU initiatives. Beginning with this issue, we are printing on Chorus Art Silk stock, a Forest Stewardship Council-certified paper composed of 50 percent recycled content, 25 percent of which is post consumer waste. The Forest Stewardship Council is an international non-profit organization that promotes responsible management of the world’s forests. This certification means that our paper can be traced back to the forest from which it originated—it’s a tracking system that ensures that conservation and environmental stewardship are maintained throughout the paper’s odyssey from the forest to you.

In addition, Capital Offset, the magazine’s Concord, NH-based printer, recently received FSC certification. Only by using FSC-certified paper printed by an FSC-certified printer may we display the FSC logo in our magazine, indicating our commitment to printing sustainability.

As always, I hope you enjoy this issue … and when you’re done, please continue the paper’s environmentally friendly odyssey by recycling it.

Until next issue,

Letters To the Editor

Reading the Spring 2008 Plymouth Magazine from cover to cover was a great way to start the day! The features and shorter articles all made engaging reading and were laid out beautifully. The “Sense and Sustainability” article was my favorite (great title!)—with its subtitles, integration of journal excerpts, and excellent photos. The magazine truly showcases PSU as a dynamic institution.
Oh, and “Thoroughly Modern Mary” is another title I liked!

I could go on and on ... but the gist is you’re doing impressive work and producing an appealing, top-quality publication for PSU. Thank you!
